From watching the Mario Party mega thread on Something Awful, 6 and 7 didn't look too bad. I actually liked orbs (after they became more interesting than the drudgery that was in Mario Party 5).
Orbs were fine, but the problem was that there were SO MANY BOARD EVENTS that each turn took forever. Because of this, if you want to play with people you end up playing the lowest number of turns possible. And when you do that... things like Orbs that let you control spaces become less significant since people will only make it around the board once or twice before the game ends.
