Yea, the diplomacy was pretty fun in the first half of a campaign because it was very necessary. I liked how uneasy it felt having so much border that can't be militarily defended feasibly early in the game.

In my current campaign playing an expansion, rise of the samurai, I triggered realm divide, loaded the turn before, and spent like 25 turns pumping my economy. I really didn't like the constant financial issues from my first campaign when fielding units during realm divide, so this felt so much better. The expansion, it's pretty cool because it's practically the same game, but feels very fresh to play because of how almost every game mechanic was tweaked.
