You are the first person I've seen say XY was peak Pokemon lol. I only ever hear people complain about how it sucks.

Nearly every complaint I've seen about X/Y is subjective. Complaints about the story, the music, the atmosphere, the new pokemon, something that's simply an opinion (And pokemon stories up until that point have always been whatever, small child overthrows bad group I seen it a dozen times). But mechanically, X/Y and ORAS introduced so many quality of life changes that people seem to overlook. The transition to 3D, the introduction of fairy types, the mega evolutions that made a lot of popular pokemon be able to thrive competitively, the incredibly convenient and easy to use PSS, which also had a more capable GTS that allows you to trade for pokemon you hadn't registered in your pokedex yet. Wonder trading, customizing your avatar (X/Y tho, not ORAS, I guess to make it faithful to the original).

And don't forget eight-directional movement, all the PC options you have like being able to select multiple pokemon to move around and searching for things like which of your pokemon has this move or this item. There was also this thing where if you held on one of your pokemon in your party, you can switch it to another pokemon's spot with your stylus. All of these things on their own are small changes, but when you have this many introduced at once, it makes for a really good experience.

And then Sun and Moon rolls around. Because of my overwhelmingly positive view on Gen 6, I bought Sun day 1. Although I beat the game, I was noticing a lot of bad things here and there, like the slower framerate, the overly long and unskippable cutscenes (This includes Z-moves), the PSS was now complicated with some unnecessary world that you have to navigate through, the REMOVAL of triples battles which was my favorite thing to do back in Gen 6 where it was available post-game. People say it's because of the graphics but it's not like the updated graphics are a huge step-up, it was subtle at best, and having to sacrifice Triple/Rotation battles for it didn't seem like a fair trade. Sun and Moon were just mechanically worser games than their previous iterations and the removal of HMs wasn't going to outweigh the negatives.

I don't think I have to talk about the dumpster fire that is Gen 8. Never bought it, never will. It just sucks to see that a franchise I absolutely adored as a child has succumbed to corporate greed. I started pokemon with Emerald and it was a great game. I skipped Gen 4 because I didn't have a DS at the time but I did eventually play Pokemon White, another great game that improved a lot since Emerald. Seeing Pokemon games improve year after year made me excited for the next installment, and of course, Pokemon X/Y did a lot of things to improve from White. I'm not saying Gen 6 is perfect. XY's postgame was near nonexistent, but since the Battle Maison had the super duper fun triple battles, I didn't really care since that's all I played. ORAS did had a decent postgame so there's that. I think most of the hate comes from people who think it's just cool to hate on old things once the next big thing reaches the market. A silly mentality, but one that's all too common. What can I say, I love me some good pokemon :>
