DAY 23.3: Evil Eye
On Amazon Prime

So I am 100% convinced that Evil Eye was originally a Lifetime movie, but then they had second thoughts because it gets kind of supernatural at the end and handed it off to Blumhouse.

Evil Eye is about an Indian girl whose overbearing mother wants her to find a man. She eventually does, but her mother thinks he reminds her too much of her own abusive ex.

This is one of the Welcome to Blumhouse movies they threw on Amazon Prime. The story behind them is that they didn't know what else to do with them, so they decided to throw them all under this banner.

That said, this movie wasn't great. My girlfriend was interested because it was basically an all-Indian production about Indian culture, and she's Indian. She was also very disappointed.

Like I mentioned, this plays like a Lifetime movie. You know, with the poor plot, overacting, some scary domestic situation which is unrealistic, the acting ends up being really corny, and the situation just feels like it's targeted for the worried mother demographic. You guys know what I mean. You've all probably seen one.

But it's honestly not terribly compelling. Most of the movie is the mother freaking out at her daughter on the phone while her relationship moves way too fast. Like I said, it becomes supernatural towards the end, but not in any way you expect it to be. It's probably in the most simple way possible.

It's mostly boring without anything going on and becomes vaguely scary, but not really, at a couple points. But it's a freaking Lifetime movie.

Don't recommend.
