Trap and house (especially house) have definitely taken over the popularity of dubstep in most festivals in terms of EDM, but dubstep is having a recent surge in popularity due to "crystep" becoming a bigger and bigger thing. Basically a bunch of future bass producers (feelsy emotional EDM) are either collaborating with dubstep producers or are just making dubstep themselves. These kind of artists with this style are recently getting top billing at lots of EDM festivals and are rising up in popularity, some recent examples are Illenium and Slander (these guys were billed pretty high in Coachella's 2020 lineup) who have really taken off the past few years.

yeah this is more what I was talking about, I went to a few shows last year and a new years show and it was full of this. but still heard a lot of typical wubby stuff too.
