I always consider artists like illenium an offshoot of trap, but trap has kind of become this all encompassing umbrella term for lots of bass heavy stuff.
Illenium's earlier stuff was a definitely more of a hybrid of trap and future bass, but he now heavily leans more into mixing dubstep and future bass (crystep basically).

I guess this is what I think of when I try to think of trap and dubstep as two different things, rather than an umbrella term kind of thing for trap like you mentioned. Two distinct kind of things IMO
