so apparently I live in the same city as a guy with a 12000BP Makoto and a 5000BP Dhalsim. we met and learned that we both like SF pretty much on accident. anyway, I took one game off his Makoto with my Chun, and lost the rest. the Chun vs Makoto matches were all close though so that was encouraging. maybe if I keep playing him I'll be good at this game some day.

we also played some 3s, and that was similarly lopsided but the other way. he took one game off me total, his Makoto vs my Ibuki. I won the rest with my usual rotation of 7 or 8 characters.

think I'll invite him over so we can play offline. that's where 3s is legit and I bet SSF4 gets better offline too.

here's the kicker - in SSF4 we kept fluctuating between a yellow and green connection. in 3s, it was constantly yellow. we live roughly 15 minutes apart and I still do not have a green connection with this guy. lol Alaska internet. maybe it would be better on XBL, who knows.

another interesting thing I noticed - he did a lot of wakeup moves in 3s after a few games, and I did the same in SSF4. I think the old thing about "bad players do wakeup stuff instead of block" isn't accurate. it's more like "when you're overmatched in a round or as a player overall you're more likely to do risky stuff." he was wakeup DPing, wakeup supering, and DPing on my wakeup in 3s. I was wakeup SBKing every time in SSF4. I think psychologically you just feel like you gotta take those risks when you're playing against someone better than you at that game or if you're really behind in a round.
