Never had issues playing with others, but I don't like to play with random people in organized group content that requires you to schedule when you do the organized group content. And I've been playing MMORPGs for 20 years. In PoE I am playing in a private league (although not in a party) where people just give away items to each other. In STO I would always play with people from a specific discord. The stuff I don't like is "party finders" or trading with random people in a large server (PoE's SC league) because it's extremely toxic. I also don't do things like make Youtube videos because I don't want to get hacked/doxxed, because like you I'm in my 30s and have a life that could be negatively impacted by a little shit. --- You're a regular Jack Kerouac Reality is overrated ...
