Isn't "Venom" a comic book code era metaphor for drug use and how it's difficult to quit, with later Venom and Carnage representing the lonely user and the violent Scarface user?
Venom originated in the 80s, long after the comics code to my knowledge.

As a kid, I always imagined Venom as this kind of silly, only half threatening villain. Like, Spider-Man is a goofball, so in my kid brain Venom would be this malevolent goofball. This was largely influenced by his portrayal in a spiderman video game I had. I was really surprised when I got older and familiarized myself with his comics and hes treated as this super serious evil creature that eats people.

I like how the film seems to portray him as more of a silly alien creature. I'd kind of prefer if he didn't eat people though.

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.
