As I recall back in the day when gamefaqs and gamespot were sorta separate, posts would only lock a topic if they were on gamefaqs, so if you post in the same topic from gamespot it wouldn't lock it. There's also the possibility of two (or more) posts getting made at the same time to push a topic past 500. Mods/Admins can also post in 500'd topics.
