I'm normally not a purist about these sorts of things (I've had no issues with Takumi taking liberties with the characterizations and stories thus far), but I'm not sure how I feel about Yujin Mikotoba being Holmes's "real" partner all along. It's such a bizarre twist that I don't know how you could have ever seen it coming. I guess I should give Takumi credit for completely screwing with the player's expectations here for that reason, but still, it's almost blasphemous in a way...!

I think it's brilliant. It ties into the duology's overall Japan/British tension/xenophobia in a super effective way. It's like you have the assassin exchange on one hand showing how toxic this relationship is (which itself is commentary on British/Japanese imperialism) while on the other you have this extremely healthy friendship and a skillful working relationship.

I guess for Holmes purists it might be a huge left turn. However, I think it was signposted pretty well, which another poster mentioned above.

I think G-25 should exist, but I agree that the way this game does it is weird. I love the idea of the final episode being called "The Resolve of Ryunosuke Naruhodo" but it is so strange that the game doesn't just make a clear distinction between "G2-4 is the Gregson murder case/ G2-5 is the resolution of the Professor case." It kind of does this, but there's weird overlapping structural issues. Bottom line, you should solve the Gregson case, G2-4 should end, and G2-5 should open with the dinner party at Sholmes's place.
