Best new song you've heard since making this list?

This will all be from the current year. I think the following are my big four, though I don't pay too much attention to singles until critic lists come out at the end of the year (most of my listening is to full albums)

Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen - Like I Used To:
This one seems to have been made to be my #1 of the year. As you can see from this project, Sharon Van Etten already has two songs in my top 250. Pair her with another great of the era and have them pull off one of the most emotionally resonant songs about the pandemic and you get the formula for an all-time classic - if only we could get a full album from this duo.

The War on Drugs - I Don't Live Here Anymore:
The War on Drugs are masters of the subtle build, and few songs hit like the growing chorus of this track.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - White Elephant:
After spending the last decade becoming increasingly influenced by ambience, "White Elephant" feels like a return to the gigantic soundscape of Cave's earlier work.

black midi - John L:
Just absolute chaos - captures the energy of being at the edge of a panic attack for five straight minutes. Few songs have ever felt so dizzying.
