Any recent kdrama recs?
i've not watched much lately or much this year come to think of it, and there's not a lot that's like an enthusiastic rec, but:

Scripting Your Destiny
  • really clever, tightly-plotted exploration of what sounds like a tired premise - one of the best this year.
Let Me Off the Earth
  • called it a weird weekly crapshoot of "what about the timeloop" last time and it continued to be that for 45 eps - a delight to follow if you embrace that it's more vignettes and side stories than a cogent throughline.
Squid Game
  • hey have you heard about this one
So Not Worth It
  • i watched this for minnie tbh, but it was fun and the cast is endearing. there's a laugh track, which i don't mind generally, but it was a little distracting since they only had the one track which they used each time.
Imitation
  • some pointed commentary on the kpop industry that's interesting to me. i mean it's on a public network that also hosts music shows so it's not an evisceration but trainee debt is mentioned, and other behind the scenes business. there's scenes of managers hustling to book slots, and the daily grind of generating content, and its references are up-to-date (like the protest truck). actual story kind of loses momentum and gets a bit corny but it's not bad.
Navillera
  • honestly? found it a bit maudlin, but people liked it and there's stuff to appreciate still if you're in the mood for it.

miyeon's in 2 web dramas currently that i'm obligated to watch. maybe after that i'll get on the list i keep meaning to make.
