Ive finally gotten around to playing the first game in this series! I think it was all the hype for Rift Apart at the time, but this is the last of the Sony PS2 era mascot platformers that I still needed to play. The game certainly shows its age and is very rough around the edges, but I had a lot of fun exploring each planet (although it seemed to have an unnecessary amount of backtracking) finding the 40 golden bolts and trying out all the different types of weapons available. It was kinda tough early on when you had a small life bar and none of the really good weapons, but it definitely got easier as it went on to the point the final boss was pretty much a joke.

Im told this game is actually one of the worst in the series and it only gets better from here save from like one or two games (looking at you, One For All), which I hope is the case because both Sly 1 and Jak & Daxter 1 I thought were both great games, but then I found myself disappointed with the sequels. Slys move to a more open environment was still pretty good, but it added a lot of tedium too and I just didnt enjoy it as much as the more linear nature of the first game. Jak & Daxter though I thought both 2 and 3 were just complete ass, leaving 1 as the only good game in the series.

Im interested to see how Ratchet evolves going forward because to me he seemed like an asshole to everyone in this game, especially to Clank. They sort of made up in the end, but not really? I had a hard time sympathizing with Drek wanting to demolish his planet because of his attitude towards everything.

Anyway the platinum is a pretty basic 100% run getting all the gold bolts, getting all 30 hidden skill points and obtaining all 10 gold weapons. Also had to grind out 1 million bolts which I guess this game doesnt have a multiplier in later playthroughs like future game do. I ended up using the method of glitching onto the hoverboard racetrack on foot and using a turbo controller to constantly break the respawning bolt boxes and let it sit there for a day while the count went up. Guess well see how R&C2 turns out whenever I get around to playing it.
