No, YOU are talking about the first month or so. Because in your traditional game distribution system, the first month is where 90% of the sales are. People either buy your game new, or they buy it used. Obviously new games are the only ones that count as real sales because used games make you $0, so you only care about the first month where everyone is buying your game new.
Don't get the misconception that the limitations of your traditional system apply to ALL systems.
Ok, so you don't like to buy games when they first come out. Cool. Use steam. It will actually benefit you. Hell ive been using steam more for games I've missed out on. Its worth it over say, paying 30 dollars or something at retail.
But there are games that are somewhat important events for me. Skyrim was one of them. I bought it the day it came out. Nothing wrong with wanting to do that. And in that case, it wasn't advantageous to buy it via steam.
