Not surprising.

Meat is expensive and people often have it every day when they don't need to, which drives their grocery bill up.

I've been vegan for a few years now and dramatically lowered my grocery shopping bill. It definitely can be expensive if you get the fancy vegan meals, or what your local shops actually offer however as even in the west not everyone has easy access to it all sadly.
