On the overworld, they're big and have red eyes. And when you fight them, it says something like "they've powered up by their alpha might"

On the party screen, they have a red icon next to them to indicate that they're alpha

I think their only real perks are that they have better effort levels from the get-go and learned a move for free that you would normally have to pay Zisu for.
