um so i'm missing a lot of context because i don't know all the characters and their backstories and whatnot which really begs the question why i was even watching these dumb things in the first place but i guess when the mood hits it hits. but yeah this still sounds really stupid.
first thing i had to get clear was that Palpatine was the name of The Emperor and that he had apparently died, which i guess was obvious in retrospect because he wasn't leading the Dark Side in these new ones. but either way he is somehow revived in the beginning and becomes the big bad for this movie in some kind of misguided fanservice gesture. also he is Rey's grandfather and this is the reason Rey is a Jedi/has that aptitude? So everything culminates in the final battle with Rey v. Palp and Kylo Ren comes at this time and has his moment of redemption. Lame. lame lame lame. everybody dies and everybody is revived. And then the ending of the movie is "Skywalker. Rey Skywalker" and i did like an inward-cringe/laugh when i read that line. now i kind of regret not watching the movie because i wonder what my reaction to that would have been.
