I guess it's perspective but I thought the show made it pretty clear that the machine didn't work or at least never activated to full capacity. Whiterose was delusional and totally desperate and defeated at that point and her killing herself was the culmination of that delusion. She was like Elliot - she created the machine as HER way to cope with reality.
And I'm glad they never showed the machine or actually made it work because the show would've become totally sci-fi instead of walking that fine line between real world and just on the precipice of futurism. The machine was NEVER really the point, it was more to illustrate the mental state of Whiterose & later Angela, to me.
