#3 - Harley Quinn

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/7/7/AAOJ0pAADbkx.png

Right after Harley Quinn was brought back from Belle Reeve, I would have never suspected that she would rank on this list, let alone this highly. In fact, the first conversation Brennus had with Harley was only because he wanted to talk to Jaime. I mentioned that Jaime referred to Lush as "Harley Quinn crazy". When Harley first got rescued from Belle Reeve, Jaime saw her and shouted "Harley Quinn crazy!". Harley got very offended by this, so she chased Jaime back to his room where he locked himself in. Harley then stood outside his room, using a pulley system to suspend a rolling chair full of rocks over his door, so that when he left his room, she'd drop it on him on him. We'll ignore the fact that this proved Jaime's point.

Harley was an obstacle for Brennus to get past to talk to Jaime. He sweettalked her and was pushing for her to head up to the Secret Six floor, since she knew and is fond of Deadshot. But somehow the conversation took a turn when Harley agreed to be Brennus roommate. Brennus didn't think he offered, but she happily accepted his offer. Brennus spent some time attempting to convince her not to and trying to get Vostok to not allow it, but it was in vain. Harley redecorated Brennus' room...

When you arrive, you have to concede, it's not the room you left at the start of the day.
Your bed has been replaced with a new headboard that is a half-black, half-red heart.
The mattress is tall and fluffy looking, with a new spread that is checkered black and red as well.
The ceiling lights have been removed, replaced with red twinklers that remind you of Christmas tree lights.
A large fluffy flat rug lays at your feet, a bright, off-putting pink.
Harley has been given a hammer by someone whose decision making should be called into question, and she stands on your rolling chair, nailing a picture of herself at the Eiffel Tower with Poison Ivy into the wall. Each time she hits the nail, the chair spins 360 degrees, slowly, and Harley makes a show of wobbling with imbalance.

Even at this point, I still wasn't sure what I had done. I still saw this as an obstacle to overcome. I told Harley I snored. I told Harley that if she opened her own psychologist office in Z'onn Z'orr it'll be better for her patients to not have a roommate. But she remained fixated on us being roommates, spooning at night and becoming best friends.

And then the more I talked to Harley, the more I got onboard with us being roommates, spooning at night and becoming best friends. Brennus has always given off a bit of chaotic energy and Harley is his outlet to learn into that side even more. Starting with the first time Brennus went to Harley's office for therapy and the two of them spent the whole time flipping through catalogues and talking about what kind of toaster Brennus would be. It started as goofy but then became a bit more meaningful when they started talking about why he was drawn to certain toasters and what that said about him. But she was still Harley even during this - Brennus pointed out one toaster that he really disliked and...

Harley rips out the page and crumples it up, sharing your disgust. She instinctively puts it in her mouth.
Staring at you wide-eyed, she pauses.
"Thart's wart irt mearns ter Gortham. Whart der yer thirnk abourt irt - jurst yer."
She waits patiently, chewing the page, and clearly regretting every second of it.

After landing on what toaster Brennus would be, Harley arranges for Snapper to bring that toaster back their room. It was very sweet, even if it eventually started a small fire because Harley kept stabbing a fork in it. Hopefully that's not foreshadowing of what Harley will actually do to Brennus...

...or maybe, in a way, it was. Harley found out from Lush that Brennus had met with and worked with the Joker in Gotham. Brennus was very set on never telling Harley this, since Harley still has some... conflicting feelings on the Joker. But Harley wasn't a fan of Brennus keeping this information from her and when he returned back to his room, she set up a trap for him.

The chair seems to be laden down with a whoopie cushion. A whoopie cushion that, as you study it, connects to a rope which reaches up to a pulley system rigged above the chair, across the ceiling, and trailing down to the wall behind the computer monitor, connected to a spring attached to a crossbow, arrow aimed right at the back of the monitor.
She pats the seat, clearly carefully avoiding the whoopie cushion, with almost comically obvious attempts to pat an unobstructed section.
Brennus grabs the computer chair and pulls it to the side of the desk so it's out of the line of fire for the crossbow
Harley's pom poms flop down, in line with her slowly forming disappointed frown. Each inch you move the chair, Harley frowns a little more deeply.
Brennus slides it back to the center of the desk
Harley's breath catches as she waits in anticipation, clapping her hands together, pom poms rising.

Brennus has a spell to summon a punching bag, which he has named Punchy, and he uses this to thwart her plot. Harley's reaction is to tackle him to the ground and the two of them roll around for a while before Brennus finds out why Harley is mad. The two of them cry, hug each other and apologize. Brennus genuienly feels bad for lying to Harley and hurting her feelings. It's a sweet moment... that ends with Harley handing Brennus a piece of broken glass and asking him to kill Joker for her. Brennus, of course, agrees and... what did I get myself into it?

For a while I've wanted to commission another Harley scene, but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. Harley doesn't trust The Thinker, and neither does Brennus because of their earlier interactions. Harley plugged Brennus' ears so he couldn't hear what Thinker was saying. Brennus realized that Harley was unprotected, so he plugged her ears. Then they kept shouting at each other, not able to hear what the other was saying. It was an absurd scene, especially since I don't think Thinker was even trying to say anything to them at the time. But I have such a clear mental image of it.

Harley and Bren Bren just work. They make sense together. I still have a lingering fear that Harley will try to kill me in my sleep over some slight I caused that I didn't even realize, but until that happens I'll continue to enjoy ever single moment I have with her.

Hint for #2: This character is an Eighth Ager, was rescued early in the campaign from a city in the Midwest, their powers involve transformation, they have multiple different powers they can use, they are friends with Brennus and Pepper Spray, there is or has been a one-way attraction between Brennus and them, they accompanied our team to Bahdnisia, and they were locked in Oblivion during Kobra's assault on Z'onn Z'orr.

We do not have much connection, you and I. Still, this encounter feels special. I hope you won't mind if I think of you as a friend.
