Jordan wanted to wrap up Wheel of Time & knew he was dying so he wrote a massive outline for what turned out to be the last 3 books just so someone could finish it since he knew he didn't have enough time left to write it himself. Martin, on the other hand, has said he doesn't want someone else finishing it if he dies.
