CODE VEIN(PC)
Well, this was played in the drive to "play Souls-likes" but this lacks a certain level of intentional design that the genre needs. Maybe it's not a Souls-like at all but a weird spinoff of a Monster Hunter clone that sort of tried to jump on the bandwagon. That said, it's not a terrible game. The map feature is very welcome, but certain areas seem determined to counteract the quality of life provided by stuffing in as much convoluted verticality as possible. Combat is okay but not great. The RPG elements are okay but not great. The tone clash between metal post-apocalyptic vampire soldiers and melodramatic sentimental memory walking sim segments is laughable. The companion characters alternate between clearing groups of enemies and being incompetent. They say the dumbest things I've ever heard as we walk through a level. Don't tell me "We can go up here!" as we reach the bottom of a ladder! Anyway, it's kind of a fun time but I think I should keep higher standards.
