I looked this up, and Twitter was reportedly losing 4 million dollars per DAY. Where was all this money even going? You can't blame a new owner for cutting staff and getting rid of openly toxic malcontents. We've all worked with those types and you need to get them out of the building.

They were profitable in 2018/2019 if I recall correctly and then overhired in 2020/2021 (a lot of companies did this, actually). Twitter makes like 90% of its rev through advertising, and ad money fell off a cliff this year.

Layoffs were definitely going to come regardless, but this is just about the worst way to handle it since it's pretty clear not a lot of evaluation has gone into how to retain critical teams/employees.
