Show: Breaking Bad
Original airdate: September 2, 2012

"Been thinking about that job more and more lately. Maybe I should have enjoyed it more. Tagging trees is a lot better than chasing monsters."

The midseason finale of Breaking Bad's final season, Gliding Over All is known for two big things: having arguably the two best music montages in the entire series, and of course, for being the episode where Hank finally learns that Walt is Heisenberg. As the episode that had to set up the final run, Gliding Over All had plenty to accomplish, and it certainly did, featuring one of Breaking Bad's biggest timeskip montages, set to the perfectly utilized "Crystal Blue Persuasion". To tell you the truth, I'd never heard the song before this episode, but I was blown away at how amazingly it fit what was going on on screen, and this was after the already amazing prison killing montage set to Nat King Cole's timeless "Pick Yourself Up". Of course, after everything that had already taken place in Season 5A, I was dreading how this episode would end. Would there be a spectacular bloodbath? Lots of named character deaths? Indeed, the ending was a swerve of a completely different kind, but no less brutal, even if it ended up being much more subtle. I knew as soon as Hank picked up that book he was going to find out that Walt was Heisenberg... Gale's final "revenge" of sorts, in the form of a book he gifted Walt so long ago. Set up perfectly, and executed brilliantly, with Hank's stunned expression being the icing on the cake. And, of course, that led into one of the most agonizing cliffhangers in television history! Those of you who binged this show have no idea how rough it was to have to wait ten months to learn the resolution to this episode's ending, but damn did that last half season deliver... but that's for later in this countdown. ;)
