Show: Amphibia
Original airdate: May 22, 2021

"But look at how much fun we've had! Look at how much you've both grown! Look at Sprig, I gave you this, I gave you everything! I just didn't want to be alone..."

This episode was mired in controversy from the word "go", initially being pulled and delayed for three weeks, and only then aired with a warning for "disturbing scenes". This was definitely the climax of pretty much the entire show, with Anne, Sasha, and Marcy all meeting up in Newtopia in an effort to use the Calamity Box and get home. We all knew things would go wrong, and we had no idea just how wrong they would go... first, Sasha betrayed the group, but that was to be expected, as she'd already served as a villain before. She and Grime and the rest of the Toads took over Newtopia, and Anne, Sprig, Marcy, and King Andrias had to work together to save the day. Then, it seemed everything was over, and everyone was going to go back home... but again, we all knew the shit would hit the fan eventually, and boy did it ever! Andrias was revealed as evil, intending to use the Calamity Box to conquer other worlds, Anne went SUPER SAIYAN to stop him... and just before everyone can return home, Marcy gets stabbed... but not before she tearfully confessed that she's the reason everyone ended up in Amphibia in the first place. I felt so bad for Marcy here, even with everything she did, so seeing her get stabbed absolutely ripped my heart out... and a lot of the fandom's as well. In fact, the Amphibia fandom was mired in massive amounts of controversy over both Sasha and Marcy, leading to arguments and debates that lasted the entire length of the months-long cliffhanger! This was definitely the show's "Empire Strikes Back" moment in a lot of ways, and remains for many the peak of the entire series, with more controversy over Season 3. As for me, well, you'll find out if it's my favorite of the series, but it certainly stands as one of Amphibia's best, and one of the most shocking animated episodes of all time.
