Show: Teen Titans
Original airdate: February 28, 2004

"I have to meditate every day to keep my powers under control. And I'm supposed to believe that you can just suddenly control yours? Trust is something you have to earn!"

Soooo... I really like Terra from the OG Teen Titans. I feel like she was painfully underutilized once she got on the team, making her inevitable betrayal much less impactful. And even with those issues, I really liked pretty much every episode she was in, including this, the second episode where she appears. She returns to Titans Tower some time after the events of the earlier episode "Terra", hoping to join the team, only... they don't trust her because she can't control her powers. This of course leads to a mission in which Terra gets to prove her worth, clashing with Raven all the while. We know about Terra's relationship with Beast Boy, but I think it's her relationship with Raven that's the most interesting, especially since, as Raven brings up, they both have trouble keeping their powers under control. Call it jealousy, call it caution, call it cynicism, Raven just can't believe that Terra can do it, and Terra's struggles to get Raven to trust her form the emotional core of this episode, with great voice acting performances from Ashley Johnson as Terra and Tara Strong as Raven (Ashley's Terra performance is definitely what made me a huge fan of hers as a voice actress and I'm so glad she's getting so many great roles now). I wish we'd gotten even more of the Raven/Terra dynamic, but it absolutely carries this episode, and even though Titan Rising is mostly used to set up the arc's climactic events, I feel it absolutely stands on its own as a great episode in its own right.
