Show: iCarly
Original airdate: April 11, 2009

"Sam... rip her head off!"

I get that this choice is going to be controversial, especially with all the recent headlines about Dan Schneider and Jennette McCurdy, but I used to love iCarly back in the day, and despite everything, this episode still sticks out in my mind as a favorite. The plot is fairly simple: Sam has a crush on a boy at school, but is worried she's too much of a tomboy for him, so she enlists Carly's help to make her "girlier". However, this coincides with the arrival of a new bully at school, a big girl who Sam would normally destroy, but can't lift a finger to fight without potentially alienating her crush. Suffice it to say, at the end of the episode, Sam has a reason to fight after the bully shoves Carly, and I'm gonna be honest here, this is my favorite moment in the whole series. Carly just has to say the word, and Sam utterly destroys this much bigger girl. I've always been a sucker for the Sam/Carly ship, and even though the show got hung up on shipping Freddy with both of them, I always held out hope that the two best friends would eventually get together. It wasn't to be (and now never will, because Jennette retired from acting and for good reason), but the recent iCarly revival proves that in the hands of a different showrunner than creepy Dan Schneider, the show itself still has potential to be good. It never lived up to that potential, but don't think I wasn't cheering when Sam laid the smackdown on that bully for her best friend.
