I think Hollow Knight difficulty is a bit of a mixed bag. If you're talking about just the content you need to get to the basic ending for the game then it presents a challenge but is ultimately not that hard (with the exception of possibly Watcher Knights, as az pointed out), but the difficulty for some of the stuff involved in what I'll call the "true" ending is amped up, and then some of the optional other stuff is brutally difficult.

Which is great. More games need brutally difficult optional content

I would probably play pokemon again if I couldn't beat everything in my sleep. I would kill for actually tactical team decisions
