Show: Dragonball Z
Original airdate (US): October 26, 2000

"The power comes in response to a need, not a desire. You have to create that need."

Two awesome things happened in this episode of Dragonball Z that elevated it to becoming one of my favorites. The first was seeing Vegeta putting an absolute beatdown on Semi-Perfect Cell. The last time we saw Vegeta fight, he had gotten his ass handed to him by Android 18, so to see that he'd become so strong in a short amount of time (relatively, at least, as he'd been training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for over a year) was incredible, and it's always fun to see a cocky Vegeta putting a beatdown on a villain who has it coming. Cell had no clue what had hit him, and Vegeta was absolutely dominating, having so much fun whipping Cell's ass. Though we know how the fight ended, it was still fun to see Vegeta at his best, and Cell taking a beatdown after everything he'd done before. Then, of course, we have Gohan's first transformation into a Super Saiyan, such an emotional moment for the boy who'd been through so much. Imagining his friends dying was enough to push him over the edge, and though it only lasted a few seconds, it was fantastic all the same, and Goku's proud reaction was heartwarming as well. Normally, not much happens in the average episode of Dragonball Z, but this half hour moved at a fast and furious pace, setting the stage for the action to come.
