advancing through the wilderness
brinstar depths
scorching desert

mitsuda is very good with themes like this. the flute and piano both shine, with a sort of progression that makes me think about traveling through, well, the wilderness. this man must be some kind of forest spirit to embody this particular vibe so well and so consistently. funnily enough, the first half of coast to coast also kind of reminds me of the forest. the percussion in this piece is a good rhythm. it switches pace in the latter half, but not in a way i dislike. really good show from both of these games!

i love how dynamic brinstar depths is, with the eerie first half transitioning into something more aggressive. i really liked how unafraid they were to actually make this one have buildup, despite playing in a stage that could be a hazard for inexperienced players. i really pushed for this track's inclusion on thus set, as it is my favourite melee song, possibly barring the mother ones (mother is my favourite game franchise so im biased). grassland groove is a song that takes a while to pick up (for me). being a dynamic piece of music, there's ups and downs. brinstar works much better on a consistency level.

bro this yume nikki song is too short a loop. i could easily go on for like three more minutes of this. scorching desert is not only longer, but also pretty cool. it is so very "me" :)
