Show: Breaking Bad
Original airdate: September 29, 2013

"I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And... I was, really... I was alive."

Breaking Bad was a show about choices and consequences, a show about how sometimes a seemingly small choice can put us on a path toward an outcome so different, so vastly removed from the initial choice, that we don't see it coming until we're already too far down the road to turn back. The ending that Felina gave Walter White didn't have to happen, he had so many chances to turn back, to choose differently, but at the same time, it seemed like it was wholly inevitable, like it was, indeed, destiny that he end up laying there dead in that meth lab after slaughtering Jack's men and setting Jesse free. We saw the choices that put him there, and the ending was the culmination of those choices, for better or for worse. I took a day off work to watch this episode. It was, and remains, the only time I've ever actually called in sick for an episode of television (okay, part of that was also so that I could see the season three premiere of Once Upon A Time that aired on the same night, but mostly it was for Breaking Bad). I ordered a pizza, I grabbed a two liter of soda, I sat down and I was treated to one of the greatest hours of television of my life. Walt came back to Albuquerque on a mission: secure his family's financial future, try to explain himself to Skyler, and finally, get revenge on the people who had wronged him and killed Hank. He set about these tasks in a variety of ways, and we even got to see Badger and Skinny Pete one last time as the best snipers west of the Mississippi! When it was all over, I had tears in my eyes and I needed to catch my breath. It was indeed one of the greatest series finales ever, and a fitting conclusion to this part of the Breaking Bad saga.
