28. Multi-Man

Am I really the first person to rank Multi-Man? That's surprising, because I have to imagine everyone that encounters Multi-Man tends to get a kick out of his antics. Except maybe Spirit, who doesn't always sanction buffoonery.

Some of you not from the campaign may recognize Snapper Carr, the teleporter that HAS ranked a couple times, and for pretty good reason. But ultimately, Snapper is just a single man serving as the main source of transportation for an entire organization that is constantly growing. Eventually, we needed a backups, and in steps Multi-Man, Injustice Leaguer turned Justice Leaguer turned Checkmater with the power of... anything, really.

See, Multi-Man is invincible in a way, capable of coming back to life as a new version of himself every time he dies. With each death and rebirth he is granted a new power, like a Dewormer that's actually useful. But what determines those powers? Only Destiny knows. Is there a full list of every power Multi-Man has so far? I'm legitimately asking, as I'm not sure.

Fast forward a bit, and Snapper is temporarily out of commission, so our only option for a teleporter is Multi-Man. Only problem is that Multi-Man can't teleport! But dangerous times call for dangerous measures, and sure enough, Multi-Man got shot in the head several times over by Checkmate agents until he could teleport. And it worked!

Sort of. He became able to teleport, though it took quite a lot of practice to become able to do so properly, and his first outing out ended up accidentally teleporting his team to Azarath. You know, that place you might recognize from Teen Titans as being where Raven's dad Trigon rules over. Not a fun place!

Multi-Man, like several characters I find myself drawn to, really balances the line between comic relief and tragedy. See, everything he's gone through in his life, no small part of which involves him dying many times over, has really ruined his mental state, leaving him a man who often struggles with an understanding of reality. It's a feeling Bloodfruit can relate to.

She does what she can to help people around her, but with Multi-Man, that's a bit more than what she's entirely capable of. At one point in an off state of mind, he sent her out on an all-important mission of acquiring toasters, and unsure entirely what a toaster was or why it would be important, she jumped headfirst into the task, only for him to not even really remember asking it of her. I haven't really checked back in on Multi-Man much lately, and I do feel a bit bad about it, as Bloodfruit has been off diving into different self-imposed quests.

Hint for #27: This character is blonde
