18. Romalthi the Shaper

Yep, couple of you called it, so here she is.

I have had no fucking idea where to rank Romalthi. At one point I had her in the 50 range. At one point she was in the top 10. At various times I've considered both ranking her 1st for the memes and leaving her off the list entirely (ok probably not so much the last one, she had to land somewhere).

Romalthi was a one-off character appearing in the Bewitched bar that we met way, way back when. Now, I say one-off, but I don't know for sure if that's the case, because she can appear again, it would just assumedly require meeting up with the remnants of Bewitched again. The bar itself has been abandoned, and the patrons of the magical bar are on the run out in the world (I believe they're in Salt Lake City right now).

During our time at the Bewitched bar, Bloodfruit leaves to go to the bathroom, only to find Romalthi there, a floating being that we're still not entirely sure the identity of. Is she a meta? A vengeful spirit? Who knows! (edit: I think Romalthi was called a wraith but I don't remember for sure.) But something about her just had Bloodfruit smitten.

She approached, immediately wanting to befriend the being, though Romalthi is not so easily swayed. See, Romalthi is a touch on the devious side (possibly just straight up evil, since, y'know, villainous magic bar), and has the just really fucking cool power of transforming others into whatever she chooses. She alters her face/mask, touches someone, and that someone takes on physical state of whatever it was that she chose to inflict on them, taking on visual attributes of her chosen victim. An anti-Rozetta, you might say.

In Bloodfruit's case, she took Bloodfruit's glowing rainbow skin, and left her literally falling apart as she slowly began to dissolve into a liquid. She made her way back out to the bar before even realizing what was happening, and the others were able to convince Romalthi to change her back into a solid form. For a character that literally doesn't have a face of her own, Romalthi is a bit obsessed with her appearance, and traded back the rainbow glow in exchange for the appearance of... Brad Pitt? This was literally like 2 years ago at this point so my memory is a little fuzzy. In fairness, I was also water at that point.

After all this, it didn't actually lessen Bloodfruit's absolute fascination with Romalthi; if anything, it only sparked it further, as the combination of the mystery around Romalthi and the limitless potential of her abilities left Bloodfruit somewhere between starstruck and infatuated. And yeah, a big part of that is just me, as the very concept of this character just fascinates me to no end. She definitely gets boosted up as being one of the earliest definitive examples of a "JB character," someone who appeals to me very specifically despite having very little interaction with anyone else.

Does Romalthi's appearance of maybe 1 hour several years ago really warrant this high of a ranking? Probably not. But Romalthi is also the best and I won't hear otherwise.

Hint for #17: This is a much more reasonable and predictable character to have ranked this high
