17. John Constantine

John Constantine is yet another character that comes into the campaigns with a lot of pre-existing bias toward them, but nobody holds more bias toward the character than Scarlet himself, who held him as one of his own favorite characters throughout all of the first campaign, which inevitably made him a favorite of everyone else too. Everyone was excited to see him appear immediately within Z'onn Z'orr as one of the preeminent residents of the Oblivion Bar.

But you know who else had pre-existing bias regarding John Constantine? Bloodfruit. And unlike the players, Bloodfruit did not particularly care for him. See, Bloodfruit's knowledge of the world outside Faerie is particularly limited, and she mostly knows what's told to her by Tim (he was #26!). Tim was drawn into the world of magic forcefully and against his will by the trenchcoat brigade, a group of powerful magicians made up of Constantine, along with Phantom Stranger (pre-mouse form), Mister E, and Doctor Occult. The event nearly cost him his life and left the relationship between Tim and John strained at best and volatile at worst. Add on the fact that Constantine, general ass that he can tend to be, doesn't like or trust the fae.

Almost immediately upon meeting, Bloodfruit and Constantine were at each others' throats, not trusting each other. They were forced to work close to each other within Oblivion, but rarely ever had a good word to say about the other.

All of this culminated in an eventual sit down with the two of them (and Alice, who was also there). Bloodfruit set up the meeting secretly as an attempt to try to trigger some of her other hidden powers (which, as mentioned before, are triggered by emotion, and if anyone could bring out negative emotion in Bloodfruit, it was John and Alice). Unwilling to ever led Bloodfruit get the upper hand, Constantine instead flipped the conversation on its head. Instead of enraging her, he... recognized her for how she's distinguished herself from other fae and made herself a true member of the magical community, ultimately inviting her to join the Shadowpact. This shock still manage to spark emotion though, triggering a concussive blast that flipped their table and left Alice with a concussion that made her think she herself was Constantine.

John's been one of the most consistently great characters across both campaigns and has been one of the more complex relationships formed with Bloodfruit so far.

Hint for #16: This is the highest ranked one-off character in this ranking
