It's also a matter of being paid for a spending the majority of your childhood and teenage years going through practice, bus rides, coaches yelling at you, more practice, conditioning, etc... And then if you do all those things and play the sport through college you MIGHT have a 1% chance of making it big and getting a paycheck. If you don't get hurt, of course. And then, even if you do make it big, most players flame out in a few years with maybe a few million in their bank account. A lot of money sure, but it's easy to blow through that much money when you are in your 20's with an entire life ahead of you.
