Then again animal biology has never been my strong suit, I vividly remember arguing with my parents that the only animal kingdoms were reptiles and mammals and I demanded to know which one birds fell into. That was when I was like 8 years old though.

Technically the species distinctions are just an attempt to create groups for easier identification and filing. If you look at how its laid out some of it is really weird considering he pretty much all descend from the same things.
