Its strange and fascinating at the same time. If you look at breeders or advocates for Dobermans, GSD, Akitas, etc - most if not all of them have gatekeepers that are careful with who gets one. They literally drive people who don't know what they're doing away from ownership.

Meanwhile with pit bulls you get the crazy pitnutters who straight up lie about their dogs and peddle the nanny dog falsehood, harming the safety of people and other pets.

This is pretty accurate, I don't breed them but I've been a lifelong Akita owner and I actively try not to sell people on the breed, and most breeders put you through the wringer verbally with an interrogation before they let a pup go. I love them, but they do require a certain type of owner who understands the responsibility.

I fell out with a cousin who is a pit mom now specifically because she doesn't understand that, and her dogs are a crazy, hostile mess and she babies them and spoils them and justifies everything they do while they won't listen to even a single command she gives.
