I'm not exactly familiar to how Japanese people play with them, I've seen them play some poetry games in anime with them. But I am very familiar with how koreans use them to play.

This is the one I've played a lot when I was in Korea.

Koi-Koi is basically the same, except for the part about stealing cards.

I also have a couple decks of Hawaiian hanafuda cards. They're the size and thickness of standard Western playing cards. One uses traditional iconography, though much more detailed. The other uses Hawaiian plants, animals, and symbols. They have a different scoring system than Korean or Japanese games.
