As an Ohio State fan I didn't understand why he didn't because there was absolutely no guarantee he would get substantial minutes the following year. He was obviously amazing when it mattered but in the games before that it was clear why he wasn't the starter

Counterpoint. Joe Burrow also did not look like anything special at Ohio State even if there hadn't been anyone in his way. Always makes me cringe when fellow OSU fans claim him as our own. Yes he spent a lengthy time with us but he would have never been drafted had he stayed with us and there was zero chance he would have started in his remaining years there had he not transferred.
