JP was actually one of (quite possibly the) first major picture to use CGI for something other than blobs (T-1000 being an example).

During production they were thinking of doing claymation as well as CGI and robotics, built incredibly detailed models for it.

That got scrapped but they used the models to build the CGI and make it move as realistically as possible.

The only straight up CGI shot I remember is the classic "Welcome to Jurassic Park" "holy shit that's like seven brontosusurruses"
