You can't enable a culture of ad rejection, though. It would gut the amount of content out there is all of it had to be paid directly. It's arguable that the bulk of that would be shady and/or garbage anyway, but still.

The actual answer is to sell ads, instead of plopping down a handful of <script> tags and expecting it to be a magic money button. It's completely trivial to code advertising that adblockers won't block, but that would require abandoning the surveillance, and having to actually court advertisers instead of the ease of that magic money button.
