Personally I don't see the way he just bops under to have the appearance of a shark pulling him. It would have to be a massive shark to just do that without a visible struggle in the surface. It's basically like how its done in Jaws, which was patently unrealistic for dramatic effect.

The camera whips back around fast enough that you should be able to see some whipping and thrashing in the spot.

But maybe that's just my confirmation bias. I certainly don't have any actual knowledge.

But the way some of you keeps saying it's definitely a shark 100% strikes me as people who definitely say there's a face on a mountain of Mars. Not absurd, or even farfetched, like that, obviously. I just don't think it's as blatant as you're claiming.
