When games mention point of no return, that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't go back and collect stuff, and it might be more likely that you can with more recent games. In many cases from my experience, a game that says there is a point of no return will mean that after you beat the final boss or whatever, you will return to the point of no return and you can go back and do stuff or proceed to go through the final segment(s) of the game again.
