But then Ryu and Anri showed up while he was angsting to thank him for saving them and it reminded him that to him the important thing about it was helping people and while extremely unorthodox, the SSS post was still letting him do that so it was worth seeing through. Plus I think he understood that the vice commissioner trying to shut it down and offering him a detective job was office politics and made it less "pure" or some shit. Like not "earning" it the right way. It's just he was so shell-shocked at the bizarre nature of the SSS that he was still tempted by it because he didn't view the SSS as a valid police organ until Ryu and Anri reminded him of his idealistic view of the police.
