ff6 is an abstraction, quite literally written as a play. it's not meant to be taken as realism in the slightest. that's not defending ff6, because it's not perfect, but trying to logic your way through it will never work with those old snes rpgs. What do you mean by this? I only watched a little bit of it on a stream last night; are there other instances of the game being like this? I don't remember anything like this from when I played back in the day but I also don't remember being bothered by this scene either so I probably missed something lol They could've shown this in another way too. Like maybe a flower drops into the water and instantly wilts or a mouse drinks it and instantly dies.
