This vendetta against remasters/remakes is so stupid. Every other media does the same thing. Books will have new versions with cleaner text, movies and tv shows will have 4k touch-ups, music will get modern-day remasters. It's so these pieces can be reintroduced to an audience that may otherwise pass up on them. There's nothing wrong with polishing up games so they can be enjoyed by audiences that don't want to pay over $100 bucks to play it on a 20+-year-old console that they most likely don't have.

You had me except for books. Books seem to be the media that still puts out a lot of original work and ideas.
There are hardcovers and reprints and what not, but that's far from re-releasing directors cuts, masters editions, etc.
Comics suffer from rehashes all the time though with the occasional good original idea.
