Of the three we only meet Gary who refuses to tell Ash who he picked. When the two finally battle many, many, MANY episodes later we get Pikachu vs. Eevee making people think 'did Gary get an Eevee as his starter?' I believe this is later debunked and we learn Gary chose Squirtle, but Eevee at the time became his star mon.
