Topic[BOST 2022] Best OST of 2022 Nominations
DEM1995
10/01/23 3:01:15 PM
#1:

Hello, and a warm welcome to the Best OST of 2022 (BOST 2022) contest! We are your hosts, DEM1995 and UF8, and we are here to pump *clap* you up!

This thread is the kickoff for nominations! The contest consists of two parts: a nomination phase and a tournament phase. First, soundtracks are nominated; then, if they receive enough community support, they enter the tournament proper. Second, soundtracks go head-to-head in a knockout bracket. Voting and nominations take place through GameFAQs, while collaboration during the contest phase will occur on the #vgmusic channel of the Board 8 Discord.

For full details about the contest, see https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Tl-tja7pij8XiZKquTXVqdgD7C9NYBfq_IJfczJuHSg (may not be all filled out at the time of posting).

1. TIMELINE
Nominations begin at 7PM UTC (2PM CT/9PM CET) on Sunday, October 1st, 2023. They run for ten (10) days until 7PM UTC Wednesday, October 11th.
Tournament starts roughly a week and a half later (October 22nd-24th) and will be roughly one head-to-head match per day thereafter for 31 days until around November 20th-27th.

2. SOUNDTRACK ELIGIBILITY
Release dates:
A (new) music track's release date is ONE of the following (your choice):
-the first date appearing on a game
-the first date of in-game availability on a version 1.0+ (shipped; left early access) copy ANYWHERE. This means tracks on early access games that came out of EA in 2022 are eligible, for instance.
-the game's release date, in the event a track associated with a 2022 game aired publicly in 2023

Contact us for clarification and rulings should you want to submit anything borderline under the following criteria:

Remasters/Remixes:
Tracks are considered "new" if they are sufficiently transformative. Arrangements (that is, at least using new samples) are transformative; remasters may or may not be. For some fuzzy guidance, the more people you think would support one version and not the other, the more transformative the change.

Licensed music:
We are taking licensed music on a case-by-case basis where the intent is to ask, "Is this considered part of this soundtrack?". If something is known for its first official use in the game in question, it's probably fine. If it's a song with ten million hits that got dumped into some random shovelware on Steam, it's probably not.

--Edge cases--
1. Contact us if your track appeared publicly in 2022 but did not appear on a game.
2. Contact us if a game has an expansion whose collection of tracks are eligible by virtue of releasing in 2022, but a track tied specifically to that expansion was was released earlier than 2022. Generally expansions are considered part of their base game unless the expansion is essentially treated as a game in its own right (i.e. Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Gathering Storm)

3. NOMINATIONS
Similar to as in other B8 contests, OSTs enter in two phases: first, they get nominated by someone through a forum post. Then, other players choose to provide an OST support. A game with enough support makes it into the contest. Participants will get allocations of NOMINATION and SUPPORT slots with which to propose and vote on soundtracks.

The nominations phase will be held in contest nominations threads (such as this one) in the "Contests" (Board 8) section of GameFAQs. These can be found by searching for the tag [BOST 2022]. A thread becomes full at 500 posts, at which point we will provide a new thread for the overflow.

In any post on these threads, you can perform the following actions: NOMINATE, SINGLE (support), DOUBLE (support), UNDOUBLE (switch from single to double support), and DROP (drop support entirely).

Nominations, Supports and Dropping Specifics
Similar to other B8 contests, OSTs enter in two phases: first, they get nominated by someone through a forum post. Then, other players vote to provide an OST "support". A game with enough support makes it into the contest.

Nominations: You get one NOMINATION submission at the contest start and every 24 hours thereafter, for a total of ten (10) NOMINATIONS max. These each disappear after 48 hours, meaning you can "bank" a single missed NOMINATION, and anyone joining the contest late starts with two NOMINATIONs to use. Nominations will no longer be accepted at nomination phase end. You may add sample tracks along with your nominations. These samples will only be used for forming a listening playlist.

Supports: You get unlimited revocable supports. Supports are **disallowed** from use on your own nominations.

Double Supports: You get up to five (5) revocable double supports, where your vote to support a game counts twice.

Undoubles and Drops: You can remove any supports EXCEPT for those in the top 8 (including ties) of the previous day. Ranking will be performed each night.

Nomination, Supports, and Dropping Formatting
Format each entry with a heading of NOMINATION, DOUBLE, or SINGLE. DROP to revoke any of these. UNDOUBLE to revert a double support to a single. Immediately below each entry, put the relevant information. A post can have multiple actions, and miscellaneous comments are permitted in the same post so long as they don't happen within an action.

For nominations, this is:
The game name. Be sure to choose an official title where possible! other people will need to use this
The game's 1.0 release date
(OPTIONAL) The subheading "Samples:"
(OPTIONAL) Sample #1 | Sample release date #1 (DD Mmm YYYY) If you can't find this info, be as specific as is convenient.| YouTube or audio URL
(OPTIONAL) Sample #2 | Sample release date #2 (DD Mmm YYYY) | YouTube or audio URL
...

For double/single supports and drops, this is:
The game name. Be sure this matches this nomination title.
(OPTIONAL) Another game name.
(OPTIONAL) Yet another game name.
