She had kidney cancer in 2018 (coincidentally, she discovered it just as I recovered from Hodgkin's Lymphoma). She ended up having the entire kidney removed and was given an all clear after that. For the last several years she's had intermittent scans and blood work to keep an eye on things and nothing has popped up.

During her final CT scan late last year apparently something seemed off, so her oncologist ordered an MRI to get a closer look at things. Apparently there was a sizable mass discovered near where her kidney used to be, right near her liver. She has an appointment with her oncologist next week and has been a wreck since she found out.

I'll admit I'm incredibly nervous myself. Particularly since this didn't show up on previous scans, I don't know what that means for the speed this thing popped up/spread.

I spent a good chunk of my 20s caught up in my own personal crap, so now that I have a good career lined up with more free time/money I was looking forward to spending more time with her once I graduated college this spring. I thought I had more time. Maybe I will. I certainly hope. I hope it's nothing or it's something that can be fixed or treated. I always assume the worst.

fuck cancer
