These assholes stewed in their own juices until the civil rights realignment showed them a way to get votes for their agenda of cutting taxes for the rich by pandering to the resentments of bigots 'betrayed' by the Democratic party. The Reagan election in 1980 was the first big victory of this new, proto-fascist version of the GOP.
